The Vikings Should Sign Johnny Manziel

It’s no secret that the Vikings front office wanted Johnny Manziel in the 2014 draft. They attempted to trade up for Manziel with the 22nd pick in the 1st round, but were bested by Cleveland’s offer. Minnesota then traded up for Teddy Bridgewater with the last pick in round 1.

Bridgewater (Age 24, 6′ 2, 215 lbs.) became a model franchise quarterback for the Vikings. He became a team leader, earned the respect of fellow players and coaches, and was becoming a better quarterback.

Manziel (Age 24, 6′ 0, 207 lbs.) ruined his tenure in Cleveland by partying too much and lying about his whereabouts to team officials after missing the last game of the 2015 season. He is now out of the NFL.

Now, Bridgewater is likely out for the 2017 season due to his horrific knee injury and Manziel’s self-destruction appears to be over.

I’m not here to argue if the Vikings got the better quarterback, I’m here to tell you how Minnesota can build a dynasty and win Super Bowls. With the team likely to part ways with backup quarterback Shaun Hill, that leaves Sam Bradford and Taylor Heinecke as the only healthy QB’s on the roster heading into the offseason.

The Vikings should sign Johnny Football because of his potential, and to keep him off another team’s roster. Elite NFL quarterbacks are rare, and Manziel has the potential to reach that category with the right coaching. He’s a dual-threat signal caller with a strong-arm and the ability to scramble. The latter talent is one that should hit home with Vikings fans. It’s a good way to keep the offense on the field with a below average offensive line.

Sign Manziel, bring him to training camp, let him see how Bradford goes about his business, have him learn from a true professional and make him do things the right way. Keep him out of trouble (like Jared Allen) and you could be staring at a three-way QB competition in 2018 between Bradford, Bridgewater, and Manziel.
